BGP 0.4.3 released
30Mar09
In this release, I added support for 4-byte ASN in asdot notation.
Currently I’m traveling Seattle and San Francisco for business so I don’t have much time to spend on iPhone application development but I see some room for improvement for 4-byte ASN support in the app (automatic translation between asdot and asplain notation among others). So you can expect 4-byte ASN support in the app would get better.
As always, let me know if you have any issues, comments or questions.
Thank you,

Just had a strange thing happen. been using (thank you, I’m waiting on a second provider to announce my routes so I can get my ASN) this many timesa day, and suddenly tonight it’s just quietly failing on me.
I had installed a couple of apps, which I promptly uninstalled, though I can’t see where they affected this. I also dumped memory using istat and have plenty to spare.
I tap the icon, and 4 seconds later I’m back to the ‘desktop’. any way to debug this for you?

Hi,
Thanks for your support and sorry for the inconvenience caused.
Unfortunately, I can’t think of an easy and effective way to troubleshoot this issue off the top of my head (mainly because it’s not reproducible on my iPhone device or iPhone simulator).
If it’s reproducible on iPhone simulator, it’ll make much easier to take a look at what’s going on under the hood by using debugger.
Do you have a list of Apps you installed (and uninstalled)? If they are free, I’ll give it a try to install them and see what happens.
Also, which iPhone OS are you running? I built my code for iPhone OS 2.x in order to make the app available for as many users as possible and verified it on my iPhone device running iPhone OS 3.0.1.
The application binary built with iPhone SDK 2.x worked just fine on an iPhone device running iPhone OS 3.x so I didn’t release a binary rebuilt with iPhone SDK 3.x, but if you run iPhone OS 3.x on your iPhone and want to give it a shot to see if it makes any difference, I’ll be happy to make a so-called “Ad Hoc” distribution for testing.
Thanks,
Thanks – agreed, with the slim info I gave, I’d not expect you to be able to debug.
I did start yanking apps until, after a reset, BGP started working again.
currently I”m running ver 3.0.1 (7A400) on a 16gb unlocked iphone on tmobile. (not jailbroken) I”d be happy to beta for you. I love this little program. I”m checking AS path data several times a day with it. very handy.
here’s a list of what’s on the phone now (some free, some not):
textplus, weatherbug pro, radarmotion, istat, 1password, BGP (of course), Bento, Colloquy, cisco webex, appgreader, nav clock, abc news, npr news, ny times, issh, decibel, touchterm, WiFinder, IT Tools, IP Calc, Aroundme, peterson backyard birds, ibird Plus, AAA roadside, USAA, Shazam, Go, Igo.
with these it is working. istat is showing 11mbs inactive memory, 22 active. If this were my macbook pro or any other linux box I’d kill off half the running processes as a waste of memory, but it’s not :)
I actually can’t recall what I loaded up and what I removed to get this to bork. I really don’t think that’s it, since I’ve also had it fail, and did a reboot, and it came back. I”m thinking rather there are processes running that don’t want to free up memory and the reboot did it. just a guess. One thing I haven’t tried is shifting my connections. i.e., shutting off bluetooth. wireless, etc., and cycle through them to see if one is the culprit.
I really appreciate your reply back. I would be happy to assist in any way I can. You have my email, feel free to ping me at anytime.
thanks

hello
nice job but i migrate yesterday to last version 3 of iphone OS and now does not start anymore
Do you know if this should work with iOS4? I can get the ASN lookup to work but not the AS Path; when I click it the app just closes. I’m running on the new iPhone 4.
Any help is appreciated, this seems like a cool tool to have.
Thanks.
Hi I have the exact same problem as Aves, ASN lookup works but when I click AS path the the app close. I’m useing a 16 GB Iphone 4s with 5.0.1 (No jailbreak)
